First ever hip replacement at Alder Hey
Orthopaedic Surgeon Mr Chris Talbot recently performed the first hip replacement surgery at Alder Hey thanks to our collaboration with the University Hospitals, particularly the skills of Mr Peter, hip surgeon from Broadgreen hospital.
The first patient to be operated on was 16 year old Christopher. Christopher started to feel the effects of Perthes disease (where the blood supply to the hip is disrupted causing bone cells to die) 3 years ago and had just turned 14 years old when diagnosed.
